There are NO laws which govern how your properly licensed doctor can prescribe opioids for chronic pain.
NO Texas State law.
NO Federal law.
NONE
In 2016 the CDC issued guidelines.. Some doctors are misrepresenting these guidelines to their patients as laws. THEY ARE NOT LAWS.
Doctors are outright lying to their patients about the guidelines claiming that they prohibit them from prescribing over a certain dosage.
The Texas Medical Board issued this statement clarifying the law.
The Texas Medical Board also issued this statement to address the LIES doctors are telling their patients (they call it "confusion") in which they explicitly exclude chronic pain from the new (in 2016) law limiting prescriptions for acute pain.
You can also simply call them and ask them If any law exists capping the dosage doctors are allowed to prescribe.
(Hint: there isn't)

In fact, when more and more doctors started lying to their patients, drastically reducing the dosages of established chronic pain patients or even cutting them off entirely, the CDC put out a follow up statement that your doctor conveniently doesnt reference.
The American Medical Association passed Resolution 235 against lying (they call it "missapplying") about the CDC Guidelines.
In part:
Three of the authors of the CDC Guidelines were concerned enough about doctors lying about them that they wrote about them in the New England Journal of Medicine. saying, in part, :
The CDC itself lists some of the lies about their guidelines. Here are two of them.
The FDA warns doctors of the harm they can inflict on their patients if they drastically reduce their doseage or suddenly halt their usage of Opiods.
(Excerpt below)
To make things worse for chronic pain patients in Texas, Texas DOES have laws protecting doctors from malpractice law suits. You are at their mercy. And they know it.
If your doctor reduced or eliminated your opiod dose without
1) a good medical purpose that BENEFITS you
2) proper SLOW tapering
AND
3) an alternative pain management plan wich includes the ability to return to your previously effective pain management plan if the new plan does not provide the same or better relief just know this..
YOUR DOCTOR DID THIS TO YOU ON PURPOSE, BECAUSE HE/SHE IS EITHER A COWARD WHO WONT STAND UP FOR THEIR PATIENTS OR HE/SHE WANTS YOU TO SUFFER.
(Or both)
What can you do? Sadly, not much. My Dr. just lied to me too. She cited non existent law and reduced my dose of long acting Morphine by 2/3rds. I was not offered an alternative pain management program. She did not taper the dose. She did this with no consideration for any withdrawals I might have, the pain I would suffer or the possible effects of this action on my mental health.
There might not be a lot what we, as VICTIMS, can do but we CAN educate ourselves and others. And CALL OUT these doctors. BY NAME. We can FIGHT BACK.
This website is under construction. I need YOU to help finish it. Please send your story to me. Include the name of the Dr. who lied to you. These cowards MUST be called out.
Keep coming back. I will be adding forums, more information on the laws, Drs names, testimonials, etc. as they become available.
